Survey Analytics Outage Feb 19th

Hello Everyone,

Survey Analytics and all our services are back to normal operations and you should have full access without any interruptions/limitations.

We regret to inform you that Surveyanalytics.com was under a DOS (Denial of Service) attack. Surveyanalytics.com was unresponsive and not available starting around 8:00 AM PST until 11:00 PM PST on February 19th 2013.

We immediately had all our teams on high alert and were working on repelling the attack. In addition, we have also put in place additional measures to avoid such attacks in future. No data/systems were compromised during this attack. We have the highest industry level security measures in place and regularly get audited for the same. Survey Analytics has completed its SSAE16 audit for its collocation facilities in Seattle. More information about security can be found at:http://surveyanalytics.com/security/

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused due to this and thank you for your patience and understanding.

Survey Analytics Currently Running Slow or Unresponsive

We currently have a spammer who is trying to interrupt our site with a ‘DOS Attack’, so you will see a slowdown on SurveyAnalytics.com or an unresponsive site. We are 100% focused on stopping this attacker right now and hope to have everything back to normal shortly.  We apologize for this problem.

Cloudy on the Cloud

Image

No, stormy weather does not affect the cloud.

It seems Americans (and, I suspect, many others) are a bit cloudy on the concept of the cloud.

We’re not referring to the kind of cloud that’s in the sky, of course. We’re referring to cloud computing – the idea that data are held in a vast network of computers and can be accessed by multiple types of devices. Survey Analytics software is, of course, a fantastic example of cloud computing.

According to a recent survey, 54% of Americans admitted that they don’t know what the cloud is, and 51% guessed that stormy weather affects it (building on the cloud theme, I suspect).

As a cloud computing company, we can chuckle about this, but the reality is there’s a lot more education needed so that people understand the vast power of the cloud. The reality is the cloud makes each of our lives better each and every day.

The more people understand the cloud, the better. After all, perhaps even someone as smart as you was cloudy on the concept in the not too distant past.

SurveyAnalytics.com Malware Warning – All Clear

UPDATE:  We’ve been in touch with Google and the “Malware Warning” issue we had on SurveyAnalytics.com is resolved (see original post below).

You will no longer see a malware warning when visiting SurveyAnalytics.com or when taking a survey, it is completely safe to login and send surveys.  This issue had no effect on any surveys or data.  Furthermore, there was never any ‘malware’ on our servers (it was a single spammer who sent out a survey with a malicious redirect).  We have taken steps to insure that this cannot happen again.

We apologize again for any inconvenience.

ORIGINAL POST:

If you tried to access your Survey Analytics account or surveys today you might have seen a “Warning!” screen informing you that surveyanalytics.com contains malware.  This is primarily affecting visitors who are using Chrome, FireFox, or Safari browsers.

There is no malware on SurveyAnalytics.com, and it’s completely safe for you to continue using our site.

Here’s what happened:

We had one customer who was using a survey for spamming and spreading malware. Google ‘bots’ encountered this survey and generated this warning. We immediately blocked that account and deleted all surveys. Additionally, we have fixed this issue so it will not happen again.

When you see the warning screen it is completely safe for you to click “ignore this warning” or “proceed anyway” and login to your surveyanalytics.com account. Our system is still completely functional.  The malware was never on our servers; instead it was distributed via a redirect on a survey which we have blocked.

We submitted a ‘review request’ to Google, our systems are currently under review by Google and this issue should be resolved within 24 hours. No surveys or data were affected, however, until Google completes their review, respondents will see a warning and may not respond to your surveys.

We apologize again for this problem and are working to resolve it with Google ASAP.

2012 The Year Mobile Market Research goes mainstream!

This week in the Seattle office the topic on everyone’s mind has been the buzz about 2012 being the year Mobile Market Research takes off in a big way.  First, my colleague Dana Stanley sent me a link to this article by leading Forrest analist Roxana Strohmenger.

http://blogs.forrester.com/roxana_strohmenger/12-01-10-hello_mobile_market_research_where_have_you_been_what_took_you_so_long

Then, as these events usually do, the same afternoon a friend of mine in the app business told me about this recent research from Flurry showing the continued growth of consumer time spent with apps vs surfing the internet.  Apps are taking the lead!

Consumer behavior + Robust Software Tools + Better Data = A very big year for Mobile Market Research!

Cheers from Fremont, Seattle, USA!
